Betrayal

Betrayal is one of the strongest, most emotive words in the English language, or in any language for that matter. It implies a transgression of the deepest order in our lives and in the trust we place in others. There is no greater breach in relationships, personal or otherwise, and to get over these transgressions takes compassion of Herculean proportions and forgiveness that trumps humankind's thirst for revenge in our darkest hours. Perhaps forgivance would be a better word. It, too, shows a state or quality of forgiving, but the word resonates more. It is the better poetic challenge.

ABC network's  series Betrayal leaves me intrigued at the anguished display of this treacherous action of the heart and mind. Of the heart, it corrects a terrible mistake, and of the mind it sets selfishness into motion. Human foibles abound, and this show's writers work their craft and art well. They know the human condition, and the show's actors and actresses portray our human condition with compassion and forgivance, so that we do not lose hope in ourselves and in our world.

Writers, actors, producers, and directors who can carry this off on a television screen or the big screen deserve our praise and our accolades for knowing how to represent us in our most troubled hours.

BRAVO to the talented people at the ABC network. BRAVO for showing our human condition with the essence of artful compassion and honed-skilled forgivance that approaches the divine state afforded humankind.
