Kathleen Sebelius on the GOP Bonfire
Yesterday in a Congressional hearing on the Affordable Care Act, also known as OBAMACARE, Tea Party advocates in the House and Senate did all but skewer Kathleen Sebelius for the faulty healthcare web site that went live. Since the Republicans were trying to fix blame at any cost, Ms Sebelius said they could blame her. She took accountability, something I have never seen a Republican do, or would even think of doing.
One bullying Republican Congressman asked her if she would sign up for the Affordable Care Act. He did it in such a way it could only be called badgering. I only wish Kathleen Sibelius would have turned the tables on those arrogant, jackal-minded GOP Congressmen by telling them she would give up her cushy Federal health care if all of the Congressional Republicans would do the same. A quite simple PUT UP OR SHUT UP would certainly have sent them running for Tea Party orientation for a retort.
The roll out of the government health care web site suffered an unfortunate fiasco that has a lot to do with how information was given to top decision makers in my opinion. One techy claimed the site was working, just not up to par or the speed they had desired. That, I believe, was an honest point-of-view from a technical person. However, this technical person should have come out of their technical bubble and have spoken in laymen's terms to other people, especially those involved in the decision-making process. If the site was not up to performance levels for public display, that is the message the technology people should have given to higher ups.
For the Inquisitional style Congressional hearing Kathleen Sebelius was subjected to, I have to admire her for her stealth, her professional resolve, and unflinching demeanor in the face of obstructionist, opportunistic, self-promoting Republican Congressmen who have done nothing for the American people but use them and abuse them to promote their questionable agenda of self-interest. (Government shut down, anyone?) Kathleen Sebelius, you have my utmost respect.
